Terms of Service

What Embent is

Embent (embent.com) lets you point our crawler at your website so we can index its content and give you an embeddable chat widget that answers your visitors' questions grounded in that content, captures leads, and reports questions it couldn't answer. By creating an account or embedding the widget on your site, you agree to these terms.

Your account and content

  • You must have the right to have us crawl and index the content you point us at. Don't point Embent at a site you don't own or have permission to crawl.
  • You're responsible for the accuracy of content you add directly (pasted Q&A text, uploaded files) — the bot only answers from what it finds; it can't verify facts on your behalf.
  • You can delete sources, pause, or delete a bot at any time. Deleting a bot removes its indexed content and conversation history.

What we don't promise

The bot answers only from content it has indexed and says so when it can't find an answer, rather than guessing — our published grounding results (0/50 hallucinations, 100% out-of-scope refusal, 97.3% citation rate on a 50-question eval, Aug 2026) describe that specific test, not a guarantee for every question on every site. Retrieval quality depends on the content you give it to index.

Plans and billing

Plans and their limits (bots, messages per month, pages indexed) are shown on our pricing page and enforced against your current plan. Reaching a limit never cuts off an in-progress conversation — we ask you to upgrade instead. Paid plans are billed through Polar, our merchant of record; you can change or cancel a plan at any time from your dashboard, and changes are prorated. Downgrading never deletes your data.

The free plan

Free-plan bots that receive no traffic for 30 days are paused automatically; you can reactivate a paused bot from the dashboard. Free-plan widgets carry a "Powered by Embent" badge.

Acceptable use

  • Don't use Embent to crawl or index content you don't have rights to.
  • Don't use the widget to deceive visitors about who they're talking to, or to collect information from visitors beyond the lead form's stated purpose.
  • Don't attempt to abuse, overload, or circumvent plan limits or rate limits.

Termination

You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for use that violates these terms, with notice where practical.

Changes to these terms

We'll update this page as the product changes and note the date at the top. Material changes will be communicated by email to account holders.
