Install Embent on Squarespace

Add the snippet through Squarespace's built-in Code Injection panel — no plugin, no theme file to touch.

Before you start

  • A Squarespace Core plan or higher. Code injection is a premium feature and is not available on the Basic plan.
  • Checkout pages don't support code injection, so the widget won't appear there. Lock and order-status pages have their own separate code-injection fields — add the snippet there too if you want the widget on those pages.

Steps

1

Copy your embed snippet

In your Embent dashboard, open your bot's Overview and copy the embed snippet. It looks like this:

<script src="https://api.embent.com/widget.js" data-bot="YOUR_BOT_ID" async></script>
2

Open Code Injection

From your site's dashboard, go to Website → Website Tools → Code Injection (Settings → Advanced → Code Injection on older 7.0 sites).

3

Paste the snippet into the Footer field

Paste the snippet into the Footer box: code there loads on every page just before the closing body tag. Click Save.

Check it worked

Reload your site in a new browser tab: the chat bubble appears in the corner. Ask it a question about your own pages and it should answer with a citation.

If it doesn't work

Tried it and the widget isn't showing? These fix nearly every case.

I added the embed code but the widget doesn't appear — no chat bubble, no launcher, nothing shows up on my siteFour checks solve almost every "widget not showing" case. First, open your live site and view the page source (right-click → View Page Source) and search for "embent" — if the script is not there, the code was not saved to a published page. Second, make sure the data-bot ID in your snippet matches the one shown in your dashboard under Settings. Third, clear your site's page cache and any CDN cache — a cached page keeps serving the old version without the widget. Fourth, check the bot is not paused in the dashboard: a paused bot deliberately shows nothing to visitors.

Common questions

I'm on the Basic plan — can I still add this? Not directly. Code injection is a premium feature that starts at the Core plan; Basic can't add custom scripts at all. Upgrading to Core or higher unlocks it.
Will the widget show up on my checkout pages? No. Checkout pages don't support code injection, so the widget only appears on your regular site pages. Lock and order-status pages have their own separate code-injection fields, so add the snippet there too if you want it to show up on those.
Will this slow my site down? No. The script loads async and the widget is under 50KB gzipped with no framework of its own, so it never blocks your page render.
